Niantic has done a spectacular job of staying quiet about the details of the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite augmented reality game. At this point they have only made a few major announcements, which means there will surely be more on the horizon!
We’ve gathered all of the most important aspects into one convenient place to give you the latest updates on this exciting game!
The Initial Announcement
Back in November of 2017, Niantic released the first news of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. This announcement presented a general idea of what gamers could expect. Exciting ventures like finding mystical creatures in their own neighborhoods, learning spells and a whole lot more.
At the time, there was little information indicating the exact release date, but many were hopeful that the game would be released in 2018. Pokemon Go users were also concerned that the new focus on the Harry Potter mobile game might take away from their experience. Players of both games can rest assured that there will be plenty of content for both, due to the growing Niantic family.
Delays In The Release Date
After a great deal of silence, users finally got to see a trailer for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite released in November of 2018. This short trailer provided the initial concept of the game, announcing the risk of exposure presented to the wizarding world. At that point, the updated release date was set for 2019.
Many are hoping earlier in the year rather than later, but at this point Niantic remains vague about an exact release date.
Trailers And Teasers
While the first trailer for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was short, it left a clear image in the minds of many as to what the game would be about. Within this trailer, the placement of a single, well-worded poster is all that is required to know that the wizarding world is in danger. Already, it begins reaching out for witches and wizards to enlist in saving their way of life.
Not long after that first trailer came a second. This was in the form of a teaser, giving viewers a taste of what the game might look like. For those who haven’t seen it, the teaser shows rogue Nimbus 2000 broomsticks that have lost control on a desolate road. In short, magic is somehow showing up in the muggle world, and it needs to be stopped.
Further Announcements And Speculations
Aside from these big announcements, Niantic has largely been quiet about the upcoming Harry Potter game. That said, there are some things that can be speculated on.
There are some out there wondering about a demo mini-game created by Niantic known as Codename: Neon. While it presents itself as a method for testing augmented reality capabilities, some are left wondering whether or not it might play into the ability to duel others in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Though there is little information on this theory, it’s worth keeping an eye on!
Niantic’s Real World Platform is something that many expect to vastly improve the way we see games. The way digital aspects are combined with the world around us creates a level of magic that rivals even that of the wizarding world. We look forward to seeing what announcements they release next!
